I am self employed and paying for healthcare out of pocket. Are individual HMO plans worth it, and which ones have good hospital networks?

Read what is excluded. Many plans do not cover pre existing conditions for the first year.

Yes, if you check the hospital list first. A cheap plan is useless if none of the hospitals near you accept it.
